Criminals have always been early adopters of emerging technologies. Criminals try to reinvent themselves – and increase the number of tools in their arsenal. It happened during the early years of the Internet – the criminals adopted it long before everyone else to the tune of critics saying that the Internet was not good for the society because it harbored criminals with the Internet users’ relative anonymity. The same is happening right now inthe cryptocurrency market. In fact, according to Business Insider, over 10% of the money invested into the ICOs using Ethereum in the first 6 months of 2017 was stolen. Once the technology outgrows the hype and enters into a steady-growth stage and will become more safe and more regulated, the criminals will be off looking for a new technology to implement.
